The two largest workings are Box and Farleigh Down.

At the turn of the century Box was said to have 60 miles of passage. Today all the quarries that connect together including the ministry quarries cover an area of approx. 650 - 700 acres including pillars.

Farleigh Down Quarry covers a total area including ministry, dapstone and adjoining workings of approx. 240 acres.

Calcite CaCO3 is the only mineral found, this can be in the form of veins or crystals.

Fossilised wood can be occasionally found, large branches have been known.
